Zeolite for your four-legged friend - everything around it

Many dog owners know this: the four-legged friend eats well, but the stomach rumbles. The stool is too soft, the coat looks dull, sometimes it smells stronger than before. After deworming, antibiotics, or a change of food, digestion is suddenly out of balance. And there's a quiet worry in the back of their mind: What if something is wrong? I want to help him – but gently and naturally.

Dogs sense what is happening within us and within their own bodies. When their stomach is not settled, we notice it immediately – in their gaze, their energy, their joy. Digestion in dogs is more than a physical process – it is part of their overall well-being.

For us at Steinkraft, zeolite is not simply a "feed additive," but a piece of earth in its purest form – a mineral that reminds the body how self-regulation works.

In this guide, you will learn how zeolite naturally supports your dog's organism, when its use is beneficial, and why quality is crucial.

Zeolite (clinoptilolite) can be valuable support. The finely ground, natural volcanic mineral can bind excess fluid, pollutants, and acids in the intestine and harmonize the digestive tract – entirely without chemical additives.

Many dog owners report that their dog feels better after a few days, the stool is firm again, and the coat regains its shine.

Perhaps you have already considered trying zeolite yourself – and wondered what exactly it does, how it is dosed, and whether it is also suitable for your dog.

In this comprehensive guide, you will find everything you want to know: effects, dosage, application, studies, testimonials, and quality information – lovingly explained and based on scientific findings.

The goal of this article is to provide you with certainty and knowledge – so that you understand how zeolite works in your dog's body, when it is beneficial to supplement with zeolite, and how you can use it optimally.

We at Steinkraft believe: Every dog has the right to well-being. And every dog owner deserves clarity on how to naturally support their darling's body.

Zeolite – the volcanic mineral that helps dogs stay in balance

Zeolite is a natural volcanic mineral with an extraordinary property: its crystal structure consists of millions of microscopic cavities. These act like a sponge for pollutants – they can bind ammonium, heavy metals, mycotoxins, and other unwanted substances in the digestive tract and excrete them via feces. At the same time, minerals are released.
Clinoptilolite zeolite, as used in DOGKRAFT Zeolite, is a particularly pure and tribomechanically activated zeolite. Through gentle pulverization, the cavities are opened, and the binding capacity is multiplied. This creates a fine, highly active rock flour that, as a feed additive, can support the body's natural detoxification performance – entirely without chemical additives.

When your dog can particularly benefit from zeolite

  1. When the dog's digestion is not in balance and harmony: i.e., with diarrhea

Effect, application, experience of zeolite for dogs
A feed optimized with zeolite can help to improve digestion in dogs by removing excess fluids and toxins from the intestine, helping to regulate the pH value in the intestine, thereby preventing the growth of pathogenic bacteria, supporting the absorption of nutrients from food by improving intestinal permeability, contributing to reducing inflammation in the intestine, and generally improving intestinal health.

TIP: Before starting intestinal rehabilitation for your dog, many veterinarians recommend optimizing dog food with zeolite beforehand to prepare the intestine for the new microbiome by excreting harmful substances and preparing the intestinal lining.

  2. If the dog's skin and coat health can be improved:

A dog food optimized with zeolite can help improve dogs' coats by removing pollutants and toxins that would otherwise be excreted through the skin. The coat, as an extension of the skin, functions as a large detoxification surface. Also support your dog during the coat change (twice a year).

  3. It can help to reduce the smell of dog urine and feces:

by removing toxins and excess acids that are responsible for the unpleasant odor.

  4. If the dog's immune system needs support:

Zeolite can help strengthen dogs' immune systems by removing pollutants that weaken the immune system. Simply mix it into the food.

Effect, application, experience - My dog gets flaky skin and hair loss from a special food. Zeolite can help here.
  5. If the dog is very sluggish and tired:

It can help improve dogs' performance by improving the absorption of nutrients from food and keeping the gut healthy.
It can help improve dogs' overall well-being by supporting digestion and removing toxins from the body.

  6. After an operation or medication phase, the body needs time to regain balance. Zeolite can help here by binding toxins and naturally relieving the organism.
    Or after vaccinations
. Or deworming treatments. All of this can lead to the accumulation of heavy metals in the dog's body.

  7. If the dog lives in the city and goes for walks between cars and exhaust fumes.
STEINKRAFT Knowledge article: Zeolite for Dogs - Well-founded knowledge simply explained - your complete guide

  8. If the dog food is contaminated with heavy metals.

Some studies have shown that zeolite can help remove heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, and mercury from dogs' intestines. So add it to the food!

  9. If the dog food is contaminated with mycotoxins.

Mycotoxins are produced by molds and make many things difficult. Some dogs also eat things from the ground. In that case, zeolite definitely belongs in the food. Zeolite binds mycotoxins and removes them from the body.

  10. If the dog suffers from allergies.

Why dog owners choose zeolite – thoughts from real life

I finally wanted to know what was really good for my dog. ★★★★★
Vera with her dog Lilo (Retriever mix)

"Lilo always had soft stools and a rumbling stomach. After countless food changes, I no longer wanted to "try things out" but to understand. When I read about zeolite, the idea of simply supporting the body in its own cleansing – not working against it – convinced me. After a week, her stools were firm, and Lilo was lively again. It was like a sigh of relief – for both of us."

My gut feeling told me: Try it – it's natural. ★★★★★
Manuela with her male dog Finn (Australian Shepherd)

"I'm not someone who quickly buys something new. But I had the feeling that Finn just wasn't the same after his deworming treatment. I didn't want anything chemical, but something that would gently bring him back into balance. Zeolite was my attempt – and it became routine. Today he gets it daily, and I feel like his body is thanking me."

I was afraid of doing everything wrong again. ★★★★★
Claudia with senior Bella (Cocker Spaniel, 13 years old)

"Bella has grown old, and every change of food was a risk. When she started leaving her food, I was desperate. Zeolite was my last resort – gentle, natural, without side effects. She eats again, has a shiny coat, and looks at me with those alert eyes. I know I did the right thing."

I didn't want to constantly burden him with medication. ★★★★★
Thomas with his male dog Balu (Labrador)

"Balu constantly had itching and regularly received tablets. At some point, I felt: This can't be it. I wanted to support him from within. Zeolite was my answer. Since then, his skin has been calmer, and he hardly scratches himself anymore. I'm not an esoteric – but it just feels right."

Questions that many dog owners have asked us – and our answers from experience

★ Can zeolite be used for all dogs?

Yes, dog food can be optimized with zeolite for all dog breeds. Also at any age - from puppies to senior dogs.

★ How is zeolite administered?

Zeolite is administered in powdered form and can either be mixed directly into the food or stirred into water and added to the food. Make sure your dog drinks enough fluid when zeolite is administered. Our dog sometimes enjoys water with a splash of sheep's milk more. And he drinks more of it too.
If your dog is on medication, allow 2 hours between zeolite and medication administration.

★ How can I use zeolite with dry food?

With wet food, it's easy to use. Just mix it in. That's also the original idea of zeolite for feed optimization. Mix it in homogenously. Our experience with dry food: when the bag is freshly opened, the food is still slightly moist. (That's probably the wrong term for it - I think you know what I mean).

STEINKRAFT Zeolite Blog: How to properly dose zeolite for dogs and how to apply it?

What I mean is that the zeolite powder adheres well. That is, simply sprinkle it over and lightly toss the food. So that it doesn't scare the dog by looking like it's sugared on top. I've also heard from customers who stir it into sheep yogurt and pour it over dry food. We also did that after Ezra, our Labrador Retriever, had an operation and received many medications. Kind of as a follow-up convalescence and detoxification cure. My mother gives her dog a special raw portion, minced, once a week, and she mixes it in there. Bakku, of course, loved that (since spring). And now Winnie. Winnie is a divorce orphan and has found a perfect home with grandma & grandpa. She arrived quite timid and with a lot of dandruff. We immediately brought them a large can, and Winnie eats the zeolite powder without any fuss. After 3 weeks, no more dandruff.

★ How long does it take for zeolite to work?

The effect of zeolite can vary and depends on various factors, such as the dog's size and health condition and the amount of pollutants to be removed. Generally, an improvement in digestion should be observed within a few days, while the removal of pollutants may take a little longer.

Zeolite for dogs blog: Diarrhea in dogs, symptoms, treatment, prevention

It is important to administer zeolite regularly and adhere to the recommended dosages to achieve the best results. Stick with it. Sometimes we read: I've fed him zeolite for 3 days now and he's still scratching... or something similar.

Bakku, my parents' dog, was given zeolite now and then (I have to say, was given). About once every 2 weeks mixed into minced meat. The next day he was always much more vital and jumped around like a puppy. According to Mom.

★ Can zeolite help in the treatment of certain health problems in dogs?

STEINKRAFT Zeolite for dogs: The effect of clinoptilolite zeolite in tumor diseases in dogs - specialist article

Zeolite can help in the treatment of certain health problems in dogs, especially problems with digestion and diarrhea. It can help regulate the pH value in the intestine, remove excess fluids and toxins from the intestine, and generally improve intestinal health. It can also help improve the absorption of nutrients from food and reduce inflammation in the intestine. However, it is important to note that zeolite is used to optimize the feed. This means mixing it well and homogeneously into the feed.

★ Can zeolite help with diarrhea in dogs?

STEINKRAFT Zeolite for dogs - Diarrhea in dogs: causes, symptoms and home remedies

Yes, absolutely. Zeolite leads to an improvement in intestinal health and also an improvement in stool quality. Proven by studies.
The study by Januškevičius et al. (2013), published in Veterinarija ir Zootechnika (64(86):3–10), investigated the effects of clinoptilolite zeolite as a feed additive in adult dogs. The aim was to evaluate the effects on digestion, stool quality and certain blood parameters.

Results:

  • Stool Quality: Dogs in the zeolite group showed a significant improvement in stool consistency, with a reduction in moisture content, indicating better intestinal function.

  • Blood Parameters: Positive changes were observed in blood values, including an increase in total protein content and lower blood sugar and cholesterol levels compared to the control group.

  • Nutrient Utilization: The absorption of dry matter from the feed was improved in the zeolite group, indicating more efficient nutrient utilization.

These results suggest that supplementing dog food with clinoptilolite zeolite can have positive effects on digestive health and certain metabolic parameters. As you can see, this study suggests that zeolite could serve as a natural feed additive to support intestinal function and overall health in dogs.

So in summary: The addition of clinoptilolite zeolite to dog food led to a significant improvement in intestinal health and a reduction in moisture content in the feces. This also improved stool quality, which is particularly beneficial for indoor pet keeping.

★ Are there any side effects when using zeolite in dogs?

Generally, side effects from using zeolite in dogs are very rare. However, it is important to adhere to the recommended dosages and ensure that the dog consumes enough fluids when zeolite is administered. Due to its ability to remove pollutants from the intestine, diarrhea or vomiting may sometimes occur during the first few days of use as the body adjusts to the zeolite powder. In some dogs, the volume of excretion increases. The intestine simply begins to empty more. If these symptoms persist for longer than a few days, or if the dog shows other unusual symptoms, you should consult a veterinarian immediately. But that's clear anyway.

In this study, Januškevičius et al. (2013), Veterinarija ir Zootechnika 64(86):3-10, it was also clearly proven that zeolite can be given to dogs, in this case 10 female German Shepherds (2-4 years old), without any concerns. The study extended over several months, from the resting state of the bitches through pregnancy to the lactation phase. In all phases, the clinoptilolite administration was well tolerated and had positive effects on stool quality, blood parameters (there were fewer stress markers in the blood - which I like most) and nutrient absorption.

★ Can zeolite be used in combination with other supplements or medications?

No. Allow at least two hours in between.
After prolonged medication, after injections and operations, we advise optimizing the food with zeolite.

★ From what age is zeolite recommended for dogs?

From puppy age. Zeolite positively influences the food, making nutrients more available and supplying our sweet darlings with trace elements and many natural minerals for bone development. In addition, digestion is sometimes not so stable, and zeolite rock flour can really help.

★ Zeolite also for older dogs?

Yes, absolutely. And in old age, the addition is also very important. Dogs need their whiskers and tactile hairs for better sensory perception. These vibrissae fall out again and again and always grow back diligently. In old age, it's a bit different. It can happen that something doesn't grow back as quickly. Zeolite positively supports the coat and also hair growth. This is an important factor for dogs in old age. Whiskers and tactile hairs are absolutely essential for a happy aging process in dogs.

★ Can zeolite powder be used with wet and dry food?

Yes, with both feeding methods. With wet food, it's easy to mix in; with dry food, it also works. Just mix it in and place a bowl of water next to it.

★ What should be considered regarding the quality of zeolite for dogs?

It is important to pay attention to the quality when choosing zeolite for dogs. The following factors should be considered:

  1. Purity: It is important that the zeolite is free from impurities and contaminants.
  2. Origin: It is advisable to buy zeolite from trustworthy manufacturers who source their zeolite from traceable sources. And who know the extraction site. Not all extraction sites have the composition that zeolite must have as a feed optimizer.
  3. Processing: The quality of the zeolite can be influenced by the way it has been processed. It is important that the zeolite has been carefully processed to maintain its effectiveness. So, tribomechanically powdered is important, as this breaks open the cavities and does not crush them. This provides space for the pollutants that need to be bound.
  4. Particle Size: It is important that the zeolite particles are the correct size to effectively bind pollutants. So, an average grain size of 14 microns is perfect for dogs.

★ How can zeolite be used externally in dogs?

  1. Zeolite powder can be used as a dry shampoo by applying it to the coat and massaging it in. It helps remove pollutants and impurities from the coat.
  2. As zeolite gel: Zeolite gel can be used as a skin care product by applying it to the affected area. It can help relieve pain and inflammation and accelerate wound healing. Add zeolite powder to aloe vera gel and gently stir it in. This way you create your own suspension.
  3. Dogs shedding - Zeolite helps with itching. More on this [+ with many practical tips]As zeolite solution: Zeolite solution can be used as a rinse by rubbing it into the coat after washing. It helps remove pollutants and impurities from the coat. And above all, this zeolite rinse carries away many odors that have settled in the fur. Instructions for DIY fur sprays can be found in the article: Shedding in dogs - tips for less hair and healthy fur.
  4. As zeolite ointment: apply this ointment to wounds, for example, the areas where dogs like to lie down and then the fur disappears. Gently massage it in to stimulate the skin to form new fur.

★ How to correctly dose zeolite for dogs? Dosage of zeolite - How much zeolite for dogs?

STEINKRAFT Zeolite for dogs is particularly economical and effective due to its fine pulverization. Dosage instructions: 5 kg body weight 1-2g zeolite with food, 10kg dog body weight 2-3g zeolite with food, 20kg body weight 3-5kg with food

AGES, the Austrian feed authority, specifies not to exceed 1%.

So, if your dog weighs 5kg, he probably eats between 200-400g. Depending on. Then you add 1-2g to the dog food.

If your dog eats 400-600g, then you optimize the dog food with 2-3g.

If you feed 600-1000g - our dog gets that, he weighs 24kg and eats 800g (and a lot of treats) plus just under half a large scoop of zeolite daily. (Up to the line in the middle of the large measuring spoon from the 450g can, it's less than 5g and costs 27 cents daily).

If your dog eats between 1kg - 1.5kg - then you can add at least 5-7g to the food.

Zeolite for dogs blog: Dosage and application for diarrhea

In our 250g can, a small measuring spoon is included. It holds 5g - when level. This daily zeolite dose costs 29 cents, so EUR 0.29.
The large 450g can has a larger measuring spoon: it holds about 14g. It has a line in the middle, so you can easily dose half.

PLEASE NOTE: Other zeolite products on the market are coarser and therefore require higher dosages. DOGKRAFT Zeolite for dogs has an average particle size of 14 microns. This means that this zeolite has a truly large active surface area. The result is that you can use less, making it more sustainable. This means you need less, save money, and help use our Earth's resources responsibly.

★ How long should zeolite be given to a dog or added to their food?

Either as a 6-8 week course twice a year. Spring and autumn, when the coat changes, and a detox or cleansing regimen can greatly support the organism.
Or optimize the feed with zeolite daily. As a preventative and for well-being. And to relieve the detoxification organs. Our dog receives the powder daily. He gets delicious wet food - he loves it - from a "tin can", so I want to enrich the dog food daily with zeolite that binds pollutants.

★ Does zeolite help with diarrhea?

Zeolite in dogs: Diarrhea knowledge article

Yes, and how! Zeolite can be imagined as a very effective rock sponge with many cavities that bind pollutants in the intestine. This calms digestion.

Zeolite can be a very effective and natural support in the treatment of diarrhea in dogs. It works by adsorbing toxins, regulating pH, strengthening the intestinal barrier, binding water, and promoting the healing of intestinal irritations.

★ What are alternatives to zeolite for dogs?

There are a number of alternatives, although they are NOT REALLY ALTERNATIVES to zeolite for our four-legged friends. However, the following substances can also be used to improve well-being and digestion:

  1. Probiotics: Probiotics are microbial life that supports the health of the digestive tract and can help remove pollutants and toxins from the intestine. Actually, to convert them.
  2. Enzymes: Enzymes are proteins that accelerate certain chemical reactions in the body. They can help improve digestion and remove pollutants and toxins from the intestine.
  3. Fiber: Fiber is a plant fiber that can help improve digestion and remove pollutants and toxins from the intestine.
  4. Vegetable oils: Vegetable oils, such as linseed oil, can help improve digestion and remove pollutants and toxins from the intestine.

"I tried zeolite for my dog a few months ago because I heard it could help with improving digestion and removing pollutants and toxins from the intestine. I must say that I am really impressed with the results! Since we added zeolite to his food once a day, his coat has felt much shinier and healthier and he has had fewer problems with diarrhea. I would definitely recommend trying it if you want to do something good for your dog." *****
Elisabeth K.

★ Use of zeolite in older dogs

Zeolite can also be used as a supplementary feed for older dogs to support their well-being and alleviate potential problems. Here are a few examples of how zeolite could be used in older dogs:

  1. Digestive support: As they age, dogs can have problems with digestion, such as constipation or diarrhea. The intestine no longer functions as smoothly, and the intestinal mucous membranes can be colonized by many pollutants. Zeolite can help improve digestion and remove pollutants and toxins from the intestine. In a completely natural way. Simply add it to the food!

  2. Pain and inflammation relief: Zeolite can also help relieve pain and inflammation by improving blood circulation and accelerating wound healing.
  3. Improved kidney function: Zeolite can also help improve kidney function in older dogs by removing pollutants and toxins from the intestine and regulating pH.
  4. Support for whisker growth: Zeolite stimulates coat health and thus hair growth. Older dogs need their fine whiskers even more, so they need to be stimulated to regrow. Zeolite does this.

★ What exactly does zeolite bind in a dog's body?

Zeolite is a natural mineral known for its ability to bind and remove pollutants and toxins from the intestine. It can bind heavy metals, mycotoxins, and other toxins absorbed through food, as well as waste products and toxins produced by bacteria in the intestine.

We speak of sorption series. These can naturally vary and depend on several factors (pH value, origin, grain size and grinding of the zeolite, number of ions in the intestine, etc.)

Basically, for zeolite from our mine (Eastern Slovakia - Prof. Karl Hecht recommends this mine due to the optimal composition of natural zeolite), the following sorption series can be assumed:

Mercury, Ammonium, Lead, Histamine, Aluminum, Benzidine, Cesium.

If zeolite binds substances, aren't important vitamins, nutrients and everything else in the feed also bound and transported away before the body absorbs them? - A. recently asked us this question. It is also almost the most frequently asked question. Completely understandable!!

Our answer is: no, vitamins and nutrients are not bound, because they are much too large and cannot remain at the docking sites. The same applies to proteins.

Here are a few colloquial synonyms for zeolite - how zeolite is sometimes also called

  1. Clinoptilolite ♡✔️
  2. Healing clay
  3. Mineral clay
  4. Heavy metal absorber
  5. Toxin catcher
  6. Detoxifier
  7. Cleansing agent
  8. Rock flour
  9. Volcanic mineral

These terms are sometimes used as an alternative to "zeolite". And some of them are something else.

Every dog is different. Some are more sensitive to food, others need more support after medication or during shedding. Zeolite is not a miracle cure, but a wonderful natural mineral that helps the body to rebalance itself – calmly, gently, and reliably.

If you start optimizing your dog's food with zeolite, you will quickly notice: digestion calms down, stool becomes firmer, the coat shines, and your dog appears more balanced. Such changes don't happen overnight, but step by step – just like anything that works naturally.

The goal is not to cover up symptoms, but to support your dog holistically. Zeolite provides support exactly where the body wants to regulate itself. That's why it's so popular with dog owners who value naturalness, sustainability, and mindfulness.

Listen to your gut feeling – you know your dog best. And if you feel that he could use a little internal support, zeolite can be a gentle but effective way.

Zeolite is not a trend product – it is a gift from the Earth. In its pure, tribomechanically activated form, it works where balance is created: in the intestine.

At Steinkraft, we see zeolite as part of a larger attitude: mindfulness towards the animal, respect for nature, and trust in life's self-regulatory power.

Was ich denn dazu sage.

1000 Dank Tessa
