Many dog owners know this: the four-legged friend eats well, but their stomach rumbles. The stool is too soft, the coat looks dull, sometimes it smells stronger than before. After deworming, antibiotics, or a change of food, digestion is suddenly out of balance. And in the back of your mind, there's a quiet worry: What if something isn't right? I want to help them – but gently and naturally.

Dogs sense what is happening within us and within their own bodies. When their stomachs are unsettled, we notice it immediately – in their gaze, their energy, their joy. Digestion in dogs is more than a physical process – it is part of their overall well-being.

For us at Steinkraft, zeolite is not just a "feed additive," but a piece of earth in its purest form – a mineral that reminds the body how self-regulation works.

In this guide, you will learn how zeolite naturally supports your dog's organism, when its use is beneficial, and why quality is crucial.

  • Especially popular for sensitive digestion, coat change, and after food changes
  • Easy to mix as a fine powder into wet or dry food
  • High quality, correct dosage, and sufficient drinking water are important
  • Registered as a feed additive in the EU 1g568

What is clinoptilolite zeolite for dogs?

Zeolite is a natural volcanic mineral with an extraordinary property: its crystal structure consists of millions of microscopic cavities. These act like a sponge for pollutants – they can bind ammonium, heavy metals, mycotoxins, and other undesirable substances in the digestive tract and excrete them via the faeces. At the same time, minerals are released.
Clinoptilolite zeolite, as used in DOGKRAFT Zeolite, is a particularly pure and tribomechanically activated zeolite. The gentle pulverization opens up the cavities and multiplies the binding capacity. This creates a fine, highly active rock flour that can support the body's natural detoxification performance as a feed additive – completely without chemical additives.

When can zeolite be beneficial for your dog?

If the dog's digestion is not in balance and harmony: i.e., with diarrhea

Effect, application, experience of zeolite for dogs

A feed optimized with zeolite can help to improve digestion in dogs by removing excess fluids and toxins from the intestine, helping to regulate the pH value in the intestine, thereby preventing the growth of pathogenic bacteria, supporting the absorption of nutrients from food by improving intestinal permeability, and helping to reduce inflammation in the intestine and improve overall intestinal health.

TIP: Before starting an intestinal cleanse for your dog, many veterinarians recommend optimizing the dog food with zeolite beforehand to prepare the intestine for the new microbiome by excreting harmful substances and preparing the intestinal lining.

If the dog's skin and coat health can be improved:

Dog food optimized with zeolite can help to improve dogs' coats by removing pollutants and toxins that would otherwise be excreted through the skin. The coat, as an extension of the skin, functions as a large detoxification surface. Support your dog during the coat change (twice a year).

It can help reduce the smell of dog urine and feces:

by removing toxins and excess acids that are responsible for the unpleasant odor.

If the dog's immune system needs support:

Zeolite can help strengthen the immune system of dogs by removing toxins that weaken the immune system. Just mix it into the food.

Effect, application, experience - My dog gets flaky skin and hair loss from a special food. Zeolite can help here.

If the dog is very sluggish and tired:

It can help improve dogs' performance by improving the absorption of nutrients from food and keeping the gut healthy.
It can help improve dogs' general well-being by supporting digestion and removing toxins from the body.

After an operation or a course of medication, the body needs time to regain its balance. Zeolite can help here by binding toxins and naturally relieving the organism.
Or after vaccinations
. Or deworming treatments. All of this can lead to heavy metals accumulating in the dog's body.

If the dog lives in the city and walks between cars and exhaust fumes.

If the dog food is contaminated with heavy metals.

Some studies have shown that zeolite can help remove heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, and mercury from the intestines of dogs. So add it to the food!

If the dog food is contaminated with mycotoxins.

Mycotoxins are produced by molds and make many things difficult. Some dogs also eat things off the ground. Then zeolite should definitely be added to the food. Zeolite binds mycotoxins and expels them from the body.

If the dog suffers from allergies.

Are there already experiences with zeolite in dogs?

Yes, very many indeed. We observe our dogs when they are supplemented with zeolite, our friends' dogs, our neighbors' dogs, and of course, we receive a lot of feedback from dog owners who have bought zeolite from us. We have collected these on our experience page.

From Practice

For many years, we at STEINKRAFT have accompanied dogs of various breeds and age groups. Time and again, it has become clear: Zeolite is particularly often used for sensitive digestion, after food changes, during coat shedding, or after periods of medication.

Many dog owners report firmer stool consistency, calmer digestion, and a shinier coat. Most frequently, however, we hear one sentence: "I wouldn't have thought that a natural mineral could make such a big difference in everyday life."

Our experience: Natural changes take time. Anyone who uses zeolite regularly, in high quality and as part of a balanced diet, gives the body the opportunity to gradually regain its balance.

Real reports from real customers. Our customers report from real life – honest, diverse, full of emotion. From sensitive stomachs to coat problems and new lightness in everyday life: Zeolite has already made a big difference in so many dog worlds.

Why dog owners choose zeolite – thoughts from real life

I finally wanted to know what was really good for my dog. ★★★★★
Vera with female dog Lilo (Retriever-Mix)

💬 "Lilo always had soft stool and a loud rumbling stomach. After countless food changes, I didn't want to "try" anything anymore, but to understand. When I read about zeolite, the idea of simply supporting the body in its own cleansing – not working against it – convinced me. After a week, the stool was firm, Lilo was lively again. It was like a sigh of relief – for both of us."

My gut told me: Try it – it's natural.  ★★★★★
Manuela with male dog Finn (Australian Shepherd)
Zeolite for dogs binds pollutants and keeps our dogs fit - no more diarrhea
💬 "I'm not one to quickly buy something new. But I felt that Finn wasn't the same after his deworming. I didn't want anything chemical, but something that would gently bring him back into balance. Zeolite was my attempt – and it became routine. Today he gets it daily, and I feel like his body is thanking me."

I was afraid of doing everything wrong again.  ★★★★★
Claudia with senior dog Bella (Cocker Spaniel, 13 years old)

💬 "Bella got old, and every food change was a risk. When she started leaving her food untouched, I was desperate. Zeolite was my last attempt – gentle, natural, without side effects. She eats again, has a shiny coat and looks at me with those alert eyes. I know I did the right thing."

I didn't want to constantly burden him with medication.  ★★★★★
Thomas with male dog Balu (Labrador)

💬 "Balu always had itching and regularly received tablets. At some point I felt: That can't be it. I wanted to support him from the inside. Zeolite was my answer to that. Since then, his skin has been calmer, and he hardly scratches anymore. I'm not an esotericism, but it just feels right."

Questions many dog owners have asked us – and our answers from experience

★ Can zeolite be used for all dogs?

Yes, dog food can be optimized with zeolite for all dog breeds. Also at any age - from puppies to senior dogs.

★ How is zeolite administered?

Zeolite is administered in powdered form and can either be mixed directly into food or stirred into water and added to the food. Make sure your dog drinks enough fluids when zeolite is administered. Our dog sometimes enjoys drinking water with a splash of sheep's milk more. And he drinks more of it too.
If your dog is taking medication, leave 2 hours between zeolite and medication administration.

★ How can I use zeolite with dry food?

With wet food, the application is easy. Mix it in. This is also the original idea behind zeolite for feed optimization. Mix it in homogeneously. Our experience with dry food: when the bag is freshly opened, the food is still slightly moist. (This is probably the wrong term for it - I think you know what I mean).

What I mean is that the zeolite powder adheres well. This means simply sprinkle it over and gently turn the food. So that it doesn't scare the dog off by looking like powdered sugar on top. I have also heard from customers who stir it into sheep's yogurt and pour it over the dry food. We did that too after Ezra, our Labrador Retriever, had an operation and received many medications. As a sort of recovery and detoxification cure afterwards. My mother gives her dog a special raw meal once a week, minced, and she mixes it in. Bakku (since spring) naturally loved that. And now Winnie. Winnie is an orphan of divorce and has found a perfect home with grandma and grandpa. She came quite anxious and with a lot of dandruff. We immediately brought them a large can and Winnie eats the zeolite powder without any fuss. After 3 weeks, no more dandruff.

★ How long does it take for zeolite to work?

The effect of zeolite can vary and depends on various factors, such as the size and health condition of the dog and the amount of toxins that need to be removed. Generally, an improvement in digestion should be observed within a few days, while the removal of toxins may take a little longer.

Zeolith für Hunde Blog: Durchfall bei Hunden, Symptome, Behandlung, Vorsorge

It is important to administer zeolite regularly and adhere to the recommended dosages to achieve the best results. Stick with it. Sometimes we read: I've been feeding him zeolite for 3 days now and he's still scratching... or something similar.

Bakku, my parents' dog, sometimes (now I have to say used to) got zeolite added to his food. About every 2 weeks mixed into minced meat. The next day he was always much more vital and jumped around like a young dog, according to Mom.

★ Can zeolite help in the treatment of certain health problems in dogs?

STEINKRAFT Zeolith für Hunde: Die Wirkung von Klinoptilolith-Zeolith bei Tumorerkrankungen von Hunden - Fachbeitrag

Zeolite can help in the treatment of certain health problems in dogs, especially problems with digestion and diarrhea. It can help regulate the pH value in the intestine, remove excess fluids and toxins from the intestine, and improve overall gut health. It can also help improve the absorption of nutrients from food and reduce inflammation in the intestine. However, it is important to note that zeolite is used to optimize the feed. This means mixing it well and homogeneously into the feed.

★ Can zeolite help with diarrhea in dogs?

STEINKRAFT Zeolith für Hunde - Durchfall bei Hunden: Ursachen, Symptome und Hausmittel

Yes, absolutely. Zeolite leads to an improvement in gut health and also an improvement in stool quality. This is scientifically proven.
The study by Januškevičius et al. (2013), published in Veterinarija ir Zootechnika (64(86):3–10), investigated the effects of clinoptilolite zeolite as a feed additive in adult dogs. The aim was to evaluate the effects on digestion, stool quality and certain blood parameters.

Results:

Stool Quality: Dogs in the zeolite group showed a significant improvement in stool consistency, with a reduction in moisture content, indicating better intestinal function.

Blood Parameters: Positive changes were observed in blood values, including an increase in total protein content as well as lower blood sugar and cholesterol levels compared to the control group.

Nutrient Utilization: The absorption of dry matter from the feed was improved in the zeolite group, indicating more efficient nutrient utilization.

These results suggest that supplementing dog food with clinoptilolite zeolite can have positive effects on digestive health and certain metabolic parameters. As you can see, this study suggests that zeolite could serve as a natural feed additive to support intestinal function and overall health in dogs.

So, in summary: The addition of clinoptilolite zeolite to dog food led to a significant improvement in gut health and a reduction in the moisture content of the feces. This also improved stool quality, which is particularly beneficial for indoor pet keeping.

★ Can zeolite help with osteoarthritis?

Zeolite can support the body's detoxification efforts and reduce silent inflammation – both of which play a role in osteoarthritis. It does not replace veterinary treatment, but can be a sensible daily support from within.

★ Does zeolite help with itching and allergies?

Itching often starts in the gut – not on the skin. Since around 70% of immune cells are located in the gut, a disturbed gut microbiome can trigger or worsen skin problems. Zeolite binds toxins in the gut and can thus indirectly support the skin-immune axis.

★ What to do if my dog smells – i.e., has a strong odor?

Dog odor usually has three sources: gut, skin, or ears. An unbalanced gut microbiome produces gases that are exhaled through the lungs. Zeolite binds these odor-forming substances already in the gut – no wonder that "the smell has improved" is one of the most common sentences in our customer feedback.

★ What does zeolite have to do with my dog's dental care?

Billions of bacteria live in the mouth – in a healthy balance. Zeolite can positively influence the oral microbiome (the community of all bacteria and microorganisms in the mouth) via the gut. Many customers report less tartar and better breath. Ezra has been getting zeolite since he was little – and the vet is amazed by his teeth at every check-up.

★ Can zeolite help with elevated liver values?

Zeolite binds toxins such as heavy metals, ammonia, and mycotoxins in the intestines – before they enter the bloodstream and burden the liver. Customers regularly report improved liver values after consistent zeolite administration. Viktor S. wrote to us: "My dog's liver values have improved greatly in a short time – I'm thrilled!"

★ Does zeolite support my dog in summer heat?

STEINKRAFT Zeolith für Hunde Blog: Sommerurlaub mit Hund: Herausforderungen und Tipps + Checkliste für einen gelungenen Urlaub mit Hund.

In summer, a dog's body is more stressed – heat stress, diarrhea from unfamiliar water or food during vacation, burnt paws. Zeolite supports metabolism, stabilizes digestion, and can be applied externally as a cooling paste to hot paws.

★ Does zeolite help with mites in dogs?

When applied externally, zeolite skin powder can dry the skin, bind histamine, and mechanically attack the protective shell of mites. Internally, zeolite strengthens the immune system – a weakened immune system is often the trigger for mite infestation.

★ Are there any side effects when using zeolite in dogs?

In general, side effects when using zeolite in dogs are very rare. However, it is important to adhere to the recommended dosages and ensure that the dog consumes sufficient fluids when zeolite is administered. Due to its ability to remove toxins from the intestines, diarrhea or vomiting may sometimes occur in the first few days of use while the body adjusts to the zeolite powder. In some dogs, the volume of stool increases. The intestines simply begin to empty more. If these symptoms persist for more than a few days, or if the dog shows other unusual symptoms, you should consult a veterinarian immediately. But that's clear anyway.

In this study Januškevičius et al. (2013), Veterinarija ir Zootechnika 64(86):3-10 it was also clearly proven that zeolite can be given to dogs, in this case 10 German Shepherds (2-4 years old), without any concerns. The study extended over several months, from the resting state of the bitches through pregnancy to the lactation phase. In all phases, clinoptilolite administration was well tolerated and had positive effects on stool quality, blood parameters (there were fewer stress markers in the blood - which I like most) and nutrient absorption.

★ Can zeolite be used in combination with other supplements or medications?

No. Allow at least two hours between applications.
After prolonged medication, injections, and surgeries, we recommend optimizing food with zeolite.

★ At what age is zeolite recommended for dogs?

From puppy age. Zeolite positively influences food, making nutrients more available and supplying our sweet darlings with trace elements and many natural minerals for bone development. Additionally, digestion is sometimes unstable, and zeolite rock flour can provide excellent support.

★ Zeolite for older dogs too?

Yes, absolutely. And in old age, the addition is also very important. Dogs need their whiskers and beard hairs for better sensory perception. These vibrissae fall out repeatedly and also grow back faithfully. In old age, it's a bit different. It may happen that something doesn't grow back as quickly. Zeolite positively supports the coat and also hair growth. This is an important factor in older dogs. Whiskers and beard hairs are absolutely necessary for dogs to age happily.

★ Can zeolite powder be used with wet and dry food?

Yes, with both feeding forms. It's easy to mix into wet food, and it works with dry food too. Just mix it in and place a bowl of water next to it.

★ What should be considered regarding the quality of zeolite for dogs?

It is important to pay attention to the quality of zeolite for dogs. The following factors should be considered:

Purity: It is important that the zeolite is free from impurities and pollutants.

Origin: It is advisable to purchase zeolite from trustworthy manufacturers who source their zeolite from traceable sources. And who know the mining site. Not all mining sites have the composition that zeolite must have as a feed optimizer.

Processing: The quality of the zeolite can be influenced by how it has been processed. It is important that the zeolite has been carefully processed to maintain its effectiveness. So tribomechanically pulverized is important, as the cavities are broken open and not crushed. This creates space for the pollutants that need to be bound.

Particle size: It is important that the zeolite particles are the correct size to effectively bind pollutants. A medium grain size of 14 microns is perfect for dogs.

What to look for when choosing zeolite for dogs

Not all zeolite is the same. Origin, purity, and processing are crucial for a product's quality. Therefore, pay attention to the following features:

  • 100% natural clinoptilolite zeolite
  • Tested quality and transparent origin of the raw material
  • Gentle processing to best preserve the natural crystal structure
  • Fine particle size for a large effective surface area
  • Clear declaration as a feed additive and verifiable quality standards

Our tip: Quality is not only reflected in the name "Zeolite," but also in the mineral's origin, its processing, and transparent declaration.

★ How can zeolite be used externally in dogs?

Zeolite powder can be used as a dry shampoo by applying it to the coat and massaging it in. It helps remove impurities and contaminants from the coat.

As zeolite gel: Zeolite gel can be used as a skin care product by applying it to the affected area. It can help relieve pain and inflammation and accelerate wound healing. Add zeolite powder to aloe vera gel and stir it gently. This way, you create your own suspension.

Dogs during seasonal shedding - Zeolite helps with itching. More on this [+with many practical tips]As a zeolite solution: Zeolite solution can be used as a rinse by rubbing it into the coat after washing. It helps remove pollutants and impurities from the coat. And above all, this zeolite rinse carries away many odors that have settled in the coat. As a zeolite ointment: apply this ointment to wounds, for example, on areas where dogs like to lie and then lose fur. Gently massage it in to stimulate skin and fur growth again.

★ How to dose zeolite for dogs correctly? Dosage of zeolite - How much zeolite for dogs?

STEINKRAFT Zeolite for dogs is particularly economical and effective due to its fine pulverization. Dosage instructions: 5 kg body weight 1-2g zeolite to food, 10kg dog body weight 2-3g zeolite, 20kg body weight 3-5kg

AGES, the Austrian feed authority, stipulates not to exceed 1%.

So, if your dog weighs 5kg, it probably eats between 200-400g. Depending on that. Then you add 1-2g to the dog food.

If your dog eats 400-600g, then you optimize the dog food with 2-3g.

If you feed 600-1000g - our dog gets that, he weighs 24kg and eats 800g (and some treats) and almost half a large measuring spoon of zeolite daily. (Up to the line in the middle of the large measuring spoon from the 450g can, it's less than 5g and costs 27 cents daily).

If your dog eats between 1kg - 1.5kg - then you can add at least 5-7g to the food.

Zeolite for Dogs Blog: Dosage and Application for Diarrhea

Our 250g container includes a small measuring spoon. It holds 5g when leveled. This daily zeolite dose costs 29 cents, or EUR 0.29.
The large 450g container has a larger measuring spoon, which holds approximately 14g. It has a line in the middle for easy halving.

PLEASE NOTE: Other zeolite products on the market are coarser, and therefore more must be dosed. DOGKRAFT Zeolite for dogs has a medium particle size of 14 microns. Therefore, this zeolite has a truly large active surface area. The result is that you can dose more sparingly, making it more sustainable. This means you need less, save money, and help responsibly utilize our Earth's resources.

★ How long should zeolite be given or fed to a dog?

Either as a course for 6-8 weeks, twice a year. Spring and autumn, when the coat changes, a detox or purification treatment can greatly support the organism.
Or optimize the feed daily with zeolite. As a preventative and wellness measure. And to relieve the detoxification organs. Our dog gets the powder daily. He gets delicious wet food - he loves it - from a "tin can," so I want to enrich the dog food daily with zeolite, which binds pollutants.

★ Does zeolite help with diarrhea?

Zeolite in dogs: Diarrhea knowledge article

Yes, and how. You have to imagine zeolite as a very effective rock sponge, with many cavities that bind pollutants in the intestine. This calms digestion.

Zeolite can be a very effective and natural support in treating diarrhea in dogs. It works by adsorbing toxins, regulating pH, strengthening the intestinal barrier, binding water, and promoting the healing of intestinal irritations.

★ What are alternatives to zeolite for dogs?

There are a number of alternatives, ACTUALLY THEY ARE NOT ALTERNATIVES to zeolite for our four-legged friends. However, the following substances can also be used to improve well-being and digestion:

Probiotics: Probiotics are microbial life that supports the health of the digestive tract and can help remove pollutants and toxins from the intestines. Actually, to convert them.

Enzymes: Enzymes are proteins that accelerate certain chemical reactions in the body. They can help improve digestion and remove pollutants and toxins from the gut.

Fiber: Fiber is plant-based fiber that can help improve digestion and remove pollutants and toxins from the gut.

Vegetable oils: Vegetable oils, such as linseed oil, can help improve digestion and remove pollutants and toxins from the gut.

"I tried zeolite for my dog a few months ago because I heard it could help improve digestion and remove pollutants and toxins from the gut. I have to say I'm really impressed with the results! Since we started adding zeolite to his food once a day, his coat has felt much shinier and healthier, and he's had fewer problems with diarrhea. I would definitely recommend trying it if you want to do something good for your dog." *****
Elisabeth K.

★ Use of zeolite in older dogs

Zeolite can also be used in older dogs as a supplementary feed to support their physical well-being and alleviate potential problems. Here are a few examples of how zeolite could be used in older dogs:

Digestive support: As they age, dogs can experience digestive issues such as constipation or diarrhea. The gut may not function as smoothly, and the intestinal lining can be colonized by many harmful substances. Zeolite can help improve digestion and remove pollutants and toxins from the gut. In a completely natural way. Simply add it to their food!

Pain and inflammation relief: Zeolite can also help alleviate pain and inflammation by improving blood circulation and accelerating wound healing.

Improved kidney function: Zeolite can also help improve kidney function in older dogs by removing pollutants and toxins from the gut and regulating pH levels.

Support for beard hair growth: Zeolite stimulates coat health and thus hair growth. Older dogs need their fine beard hairs all the more, so they must be encouraged to regrow. Zeolite does this.

★ What exactly does zeolite bind in the dog's body?

Zeolite is a natural mineral known for its ability to bind and remove pollutants and toxins from the gut. It can bind heavy metals, mycotoxins, and other toxins ingested through food, as well as waste products and toxins produced by bacteria in the gut.

One speaks of sorption series. These can naturally vary and depend on several factors (pH value, origin, particle size and grinding of the zeolite, number of ions in the intestine, etc.)

Basically, for zeolite from our mining site (Eastern Slovakia - Prof. Karl Hecht recommends this mining site due to the optimal composition of natural zeolite), the following sorption series can be assumed:

Mercury, ammonium, lead, histamine, aluminum, benzidine, cesium.

If zeolite binds substances, aren't important vitamins, nutrients, and everything else in the food also bound and transported away before the body can absorb them? - A. asked us this question recently. It's almost the most frequently asked question. Perfectly understandable!!

Our answer is: no, vitamins and nutrients are not bound because they are too large and cannot remain at the docking points. The same applies to proteins.

🐾 Conclusion – with heart, knowledge, and intuition

Every dog is different. Some react more sensitively to food, others have a greater need for support after medication or during shedding. Zeolite is not a miracle cure, but a wonderful natural mineral that helps the body to rebalance itself – calmly, gently, and reliably.

When you start optimizing your dog's food with zeolite, you will quickly notice: digestion calms down, stools become firmer, the coat shines, and your dog appears more balanced. Such changes do not happen overnight, but step by step – just like everything that works naturally.

The goal is not to mask symptoms, but to support your dog holistically. Zeolite supports exactly where the body wants to self-regulate. That's why it is so popular with dog owners who value naturalness, sustainability, and mindfulness.

Listen to your gut feeling – you know your dog best. And if you feel he could use a little internal support, zeolite can be a gentle yet effective way.

Zeolite is not a trend product – it is a gift from the earth. In its pure, tribomechanically activated form, it works where balance originates: in the gut.

At Steinkraft, we see zeolite as part of a larger attitude: mindfulness towards animals, respect for nature, and trust in life's self-regulating power.

When you enrich your dog's food with zeolite, you give him more than nutrients – you give him lightness, vitality, and the feeling of being completely at home in his own body again.

DOGKRAFT Zeolite from Steinkraft is pure, finely ground, and tribomechanically activated – for maximum binding power and minimal dosage.
This is how you support your dog naturally – day after day, with love, knowledge, and responsibility.

Also: ins Futter bleibt die erste Wahl. Aber die Spritze als ergänzende Anwendung für die Mundhygiene – das sehe ich jetzt durchaus anders als damals. 🐕🧡
