So, what to do for the soil in the garden this autumn:

1. Soil Preparation: Lime and Zeolite for a Good Basic Supply. Autumn is the ideal time to prepare the soil for the coming season. Lime and zeolite play a crucial role here. Lime regulates the pH value and ensures optimal conditions for plant growth. Adding micronized lime ensures better uptake by the plants. This means that the lime can only be absorbed by the plant roots in this form. Otherwise, it just lies in the soil. Okay, it loosens the soil; we add lime so that it can exert its effects. Zeolite, known as a soil improver, ensures greater water retention capacity and nutrient availability in the soil. To be more precise: Coarse zeolite is used for soil loosening. For zeolite to absorb water, or a lot of water, it must be fine. Tribomechanically ground—or more accurately, powdered—zeolite supports the cation exchange capacity (CEC) of the soil through its electrostatic charge. This ensures that the nutrients migrate to the plant roots and are attracted by them. The soil needs a basic energy source for this. Otherwise, nothing moves. And that's right: microorganisms are also part of it; the soil environment is important for cation exchange to take place.

2. Protection from the cold: Vermiculite for optimal soil structure. The cold temperatures of winter can put a strain on the soil. This is where vermiculite comes in. It improves soil structure, increases water retention capacity , and protects plant roots from frost damage. Vermiculite enables roots to absorb nutrients more efficiently, thus promoting healthy plant growth.

3. Activating Soil Life: Microorganisms for Vitality. Vital soil is key to healthy plant growth. Microorganisms play a central role in this. Adding high-quality microorganisms stimulates soil biology, leading to improved nutrient cycling and increased soil fertility. This is particularly important in autumn to prepare the soil for the next growing season.

4. Natural Minerals: Basalt for Sustainable Soil Enrichment. Basalt rock, or rock flour as it is often called, is a natural source of minerals and trace elements. Adding basalt flour in the autumn months enriches the soil with essential nutrients in the long term. The minerals are released slowly and are available to plants over an extended period. AND: Basalt helps to stabilize and realign the Earth's magnetic field. Not just any basalt, though. For STEINKRAFT, we have the basalt that has a significant effect on the magnetic field. Tested with a special device from TERRAFELIX in Australia.

5. Focus on Sustainability: Holistic Soil Care. As a hobby gardener and managing director of Steinkraft, I am passionate about caring for our soil in a natural and sustainable way. Our products – zeolite, lime, vermiculite, microorganisms, and basalt – work in harmony with nature to strengthen the soil for healthy plant growth. Because only healthy soil allows us to cultivate magnificent gardens and harvest fresh, nutrient-rich crops.

1️⃣ Lime – For balance and pH stability

Lime regulates the pH value and creates optimal conditions for plant growth. Adding micronized lime improves its uptake by the plants, allowing it to exert its full effect.

Application tip:

  • Best time: September to November, before the frost

  • Spread on damp, unfrozen ground

  • Lightly work it in or let it rain in.

  • 100–150 g/m², depending on soil type

Tip: Check the pH value beforehand – ideally it should be between 6 and 7.

2️⃣ Zeolite – For structure and nutrient storage

Zeolite improves soil structure, increases water retention capacity, and promotes nutrient availability. Particularly fine, tribomechanically activated zeolite acts like a nutrient magnet due to its electrostatic charge.

Application tip:

  • Apply in autumn after liming or together with basalt.

  • Sprinkle fine zeolite powder thinly over the soil (approx. 100 g/m²)

  • Work it in with a rake or let it be washed in by the rain.

  • Ideal for vegetable beds, perennial borders and under fruit trees

Tip: Fine zeolite binds excess nutrients and keeps them available for spring.

3️⃣ Vermiculite – For frost protection and moisture

Vermiculite protects roots from frost and ensures a loose, moisture-regulating soil structure. It stores water and air simultaneously – a boon for sensitive plants.

Application tip:

  • Best time: October until before the first frost

  • Lightly work into the top layer of soil (2–3 cm).

  • Especially good for flower beds, herb gardens and perennials

  • 50–100 g/m² or 1 part vermiculite to 3 parts soil

Tip: Also excellent as an additive for potted plants outdoors.

4️⃣ Microorganisms – For living soil

Healthy soil is alive – thanks to microorganisms. They activate the nutrient cycle, promote root health, and improve soil structure.

Application tip:

  • Ideal from September to mid-November, as long as the ground is not frozen.

  • Dissolve liquid microorganisms (EM) in water and pour over the soil.

  • Then apply zeolite or basalt – this creates ideal habitats

  • 10 ml EM per 10 l of water per m²

Tip: Microorganisms are particularly active in mild, humid weather.

5️⃣ Basalt / Rock Flour – For natural mineral power

Basalt provides valuable minerals and trace elements that are released slowly. It strengthens the soil structure, has a balancing effect, and supports the Earth's magnetic field balance.

Application tip:

  • Possible year-round, especially in autumn after periods of rain.

  • Spread evenly over flower beds or lawns (approx. 100 g/m²)

  • Work it in gently or let it be washed in by the rain.

  • Ideal in combination with zeolite for a balanced mineral supply

Tip: Our Steinkraft basalt was tested with a special device from TERRAFELIX – its magnetic resonance power supports the natural balance of the soil.
