Trockenheit und Wetterumschwünge - Viele Winzer in Österreich gehen neue Wege

Drought and weather changes - Many winemakers in Austria are taking new paths

Viticulture plays an important role in Austria. Almost 2.5 million hectoliters are produced annually, two-thirds of which is white wine and one-third red wine – and this figure is increasing every year. In times of climate change, winemakers are seeking ecologically sound methods, moving away from pesticides and using organic fertilizers. In the long term, the wineries hope this will result in higher yields, more vigorous plants, and wine of particularly high quality.

High temperatures are increasingly challenging local farmers summer after summer. During this time, plants need a particularly large amount of water. This also applies to wine. Around 120 liters are needed to produce one glass of wine. That's a considerable amount. Water is not only important for the development of the grapes; the leaves also need sufficient moisture. An airy, yet shaded leaf structure protects the grapes, similar to a blind. Humidity regulation is even more important at higher temperatures than before to ensure optimal water and other nutrients are available to the plants. More and more winemakers are asking for zeolite for their vines and for the soil. In response to this demand, we developed the WEINKRAFT product line.

Zeolite - Power for leaves and soil

Zeolite is a mineral of volcanic origin that has long been used in agriculture. At Steinkraft, we have optimized the production of zeolite powder. Our air milling produces particularly fine zeolite, which, enriched with calcium and vermiculite, is more readily available to plants.

Soil pellets with zeolite and vermiculite for the vineyard

Weinkraft soil, for example, releases important nutrients in pellet form to the root zone, strengthening the plant and reducing root rot. The pellets bind water during rain and slowly release it to the plant during dry periods.

CO2 supply to the grapevine

Weinkraft foliar fertilizer, on the other hand, supplies the plant with CO2, thereby supporting photosynthesis and plant growth. This allows the plant to extract more energy from sunlight and grow faster.

By using Weinkraft products, you achieve nutrient-rich soils, less water consumption, and resilient and healthy plants.

Easy application of soil pellets with zeolite

Weinkraft Soil should be spread evenly over the vineyard soil once a year, either two weeks before the plants begin to bud or immediately after the harvest. 500 kilograms is sufficient for approximately one hectare.

Weinkraft-Blatt, on the other hand, should be applied in several steps, depending on the stage of the leaves. We recommend at least three applications. Mixed with water, the product is sprayed directly onto the leaf surface of the plants, strengthening them. Weinkraft-Blatt can be combined with all commercially available fertilizers and pesticides.
