Trockenheit und Wetterumschwünge - Viele Winzer in Österreich gehen neue Wege

Drought and weather changes - Many winemakers in Austria are taking new paths

Viticulture plays an important role in Austria. Nearly 2.5 million hectoliters are produced annually; two-thirds of this is white wine and one-third red wine—and the amount increases every year. In times of climate change, vintners are looking for ecologically sound methods, turning away from pesticides and using organic fertilizers. In the long term, businesses hope this will lead to higher yields, stronger plants, and particularly high-quality wine.

Summer after summer, high temperatures are increasingly challenging local farmers. During this time, plants need a lot of water. This also applies to wine. Approximately 120 liters are needed to produce one glass of wine. That is a considerable amount. Water is not only important for the development of the grapes, but the leaves also need sufficient moisture. An airy but shaded leaf structure protects the grapes, similar to a blind. Moisture regulation is even more important at higher temperatures than before, so that water and other nutrients are optimally available to the plants. More and more vintners are asking for zeolite for their grapevines and for the soil. Due to this demand, we have developed the WEINKRAFT product line.

Zeolite - Strength for Leaf and Soil

Zeolite is a mineral of volcanic origin that has been used in agriculture for a long time. At Steinkraft, we have optimized the production of zeolite powder. Our air milling process creates particularly fine zeolite, which, enriched with calcium and vermiculite, is more available to plants.

Soil Pellets with Zeolite and Vermiculite for the Vineyard

Weinkraft Soil, for example, releases important nutrients to the root area in the form of pellets, thereby strengthening the plant and reducing root rot. When it rains, the pellets bind water and release it slowly to the plant during dry periods.

CO2 Supply for the Grapevine

Weinkraft Leaf Fertilizer, on the other hand, supplies the plant with CO2, thereby supporting photosynthesis and plant growth. This allows the plant to draw more energy from sunlight and grow faster.

By using Weinkraft products, nutrient-rich soils, less water consumption, and resistant, healthy plants are achieved.

Easy Application of Soil Pellets with Zeolite

Weinkraft Soil should be evenly distributed in the vineyard once a year. Either two weeks before the plants begin to sprout or directly after the harvest. 500 kilograms are approximately enough for one hectare.

Weinkraft Leaf, in turn, should be used in several steps, depending on the stage of the leaves. We recommend at least three applications. Mixed with water, the product is sprayed directly onto the leaf surface of the plants, thereby strengthening them. Weinkraft Leaf can be combined with all commercially available fertilizers and plant protection products.
